For 15 years, Mast had enjoyed success in rapid urine screening with its Elite product. They had identified it was time to develop a faster, more compact unit.

4D Products laboratory equipment design team presented Mast with a range of design concepts to consider before one was selected for detailed development.

For reasons of hygiene, the Uri-Plus product needed smooth, wipe-clean surfaces free from any trapping points such as grooves or recesses.

As the device is supplied in relatively low production volumes, we identified RIM casting as the most viable production method.

The final design is a single piece casing with a smooth, curved exterior devoid of any visible split lines.

Our 3D CAD designers worked with the clients in house electronics engineer to develop a fully resolved design and 3D CAD models, also performing a feasibility study on the unit’s mechanical engineering.

Engineering drawings for production were supplied to the clients procurement team.

The completed design was brought into production by utilising a range of UK based manufacturers, for RIM casting of the custom enclosure, along with sheet metal and CNC machining of the aluminium internals. The final assembly work is carried out in house by Masts production engineers.

The new and improved screening machine has been exceptionally well received, and has helped Mast Group to expand their business and production facilities in the UK.

Along with the wider screening system, it has been featured widely in industry press.

The UriPlus was voted runner up in 2 categories in the North West Bionow awards and has also featured in a Developed3D.com publication.
