LayTec UK Limited design and supply extremely accurate laser measuring instruments and software to the semi -conductor industry. An increase in their product development activities meant they needed to quickly find additional design engineering and 3D CAD resources to deal with the peak in demand.
Optical Design Engineering
The Design Phase
4D Products were initially contracted to deliver a short phase of 3D CAD work. A design engineer worked on site, and as the working relationship developed this was extended and elements of design and engineering work added to the list of deliverables.
Over the months we have regularly worked on site, integrating within the in-house design team. LayTec’s products are typically low volume, and require an extremely high level of accuracy as precision optical components and electronic sensing equipment is combined to measure minute surface undulations during the manufacture of valuable semi-conductor materials.
4D have been tasked with development of new product variants from concept through to supply of accurately machined components for assembly by in-house experts.
“The ability to manage the size of our design capabilities on a week-by-week basis has been extremely useful for delivering new products whilst keeping our staff levels constant.
We are extremely pleased with the results to date, and will continue to take this approach to deal with high demand on our design team. In particular their ability to use both Creo and SolidWorks platforms removed a major headache for us.’”
Nigel Mason, Senior Engineer – Laytec UK Limited
LayTec have been able to consistently deliver an increased volume of high-quality instruments to explore the commercial opportunities available to them.
