4DP were commissioned to work alongside the clients in house engineering team to develop a rugged, vehicle mounted data logger  / printer solution. The end user is the largest frozen food deliverer in the UK.

Our design team developed a range of concepts in response to the brief. Of high importance were  – Aesthetic appeal, an IP65 rating, ability to withstand vehicle vibration, ability to shield the LCD screen from sunlight for ease of viewing, and flexibility in terms of cable entry points.

Our CAD designers worked through the full product, creating all the bespoke plastic work, metal bracketry, as well as PCB sizing and positions. The design was presented to the client at regular intervals to get sign off for the design approach, as they were manufacturing in house, the design had to fit in with their existing manufacturing resources.

With a fully detailed 3D CAD model in place, we initially supplied SLS prototypes to test fit and function. Following sign off we then supplied CNC machined prototypes in full production materials and finishes. The whole product was then assembled and tested by the clients in house electronic engineering team.

Our design team delivered a production ready design within a tight time frame, allowing the clients in house engineers to focus on other important projects.
