A pioneering medical device developed to provide rapid, accurate assessment of blood coagulation, supporting both human and veterinary diagnostics.

The VCM™ system has enabled Entegrion and Medtech To Market to deliver a compact, user-friendly solution for real-time blood coagulation testing, broadening access to critical diagnostic information in clinical and veterinary settings.

Developing a viscoelastic blood coagulation tester required a design that could house complex internal mechanisms, maintain a constant 37°C in the test chamber, and deliver reliable results in a compact, easy-to-use format. The enclosure needed to be ready for injection moulding and support seamless integration with existing electronics.

4D Products began by exploring a range of design approaches, focusing on layout, user experience, and aesthetics. Regular presentations ensured alignment with the client’s vision and technical requirements. Once a preferred concept was selected, the team advanced to detailed 3D CAD development of the plastic enclosure and internal mechanisms, working closely with the electronics team to optimise the internal layout. Fully branded vacuum cast prototypes were produced for device trials, and feedback from initial testing led to further refinement of the internal boards, making the product more compact and cost-effective.

4D Products supported the project through to the release of manufacturing data for the initial production run. The VCM™ and VCM Vet™ are now part of Entegrion’s diagnostic portfolio, providing reliable coagulation testing for both human and animal healthcare.
