UV Hand Sanitiser

Looking to revolutionisie the process of hand cleaning. This wall and counter top mounted device applie applies a precisely controlled dose of UV light to the hands killing bacteria quickly and without the need for gels, sprays or soap. 4D Products was tasked with advancing this groundbreaking technology, developing a functional enclosure for the next stage of trials, a target audience deployment at a major airport.

"A revolutionary new product, changing the way we sanitise our hands."

The Challenge:

Design a revolutionary, high-impact enclosure to house the BioCare UV hand sanitising technology. This design needed to be a powerful blend of attention-grabbing aesthetics and non-negotiable user safety. Challenges to address included the internal configuration of components, extenor touch points and visual impact.

The 4D Process:

The project began with a comprehensive review of the product and its functicinal requirements, leading directly to a defined design specification. To ensure the most effectr effective use of space, the internal components were strategically rearranged, optimising the layout for both functionality and safety. This optimised internal assembly became the foundation for the exterior, which was designed to be a user-friendly, inviting, and eye-catching enclosure. The primary goal was to create a design that would instil confidence in the user and encourage them to embrace this new approach to hand cleaning.

Initial concept designs were developed through sketching, informed by a detailed study of anthropometric data and ergonomics to identify the ideal form factor. Stakehol Stakeholder buy-in was crucial at this early stage, therefore all concepts were reviewed ved and feedback was incorporated to refine the design. The final design was translated into a detailed 3D CAD assembly from which two sets of parts were manufactured. Using a combination of rapid prototyping and precision machining and finished with high-quality paint, the prototypes achieved the lock and feel of a production-ready product.

The Result:

Two fully functional prototypes were successfully delivered to the client and taken to Heathrow Airport for crucial user trials. Simple in form yet eye-catching, the product was designed for natural, effortless user engagement. Our primary goal was to eliminate any resistance to using an unfamiliar process to deliver such a familiar outcome. Feedback from these tests will be used to measure user engagement and determine the next phase of development toward commercialisation.

"Our goal in partnering with 4D Products was twofold: to create a robust, functional prototype for critical field trials at Heathrow Airport and to develop a design that would serve as a powerful visual statement to draw people in. 4D Products didn't just meet these requirements, they exceeded them. We are thrilled with the finished product and are now underway with fleld trials. We anticipate a hugely positive outcome and are excited to continue this development journey with the 4D team."
